Beginners are encouraged to start with 'Initiation to French’ (Absolute Beginner) or A1.1 courses.

The A1 level includes our “Initiation” Absolute Beginner course, as well as our courses A1.1 – A1.4, and A1 Review courses. Non-beginners, take our simple online placement test if you’d like to join, but are unsure of your level. One of our instructors will review your test and follow up with you to place you in the correct class.

Private Lessons

We offer French private and semi-private lessons, as well as tutoring tailored to the level and goals of the student. Please email our Administrative Coordinator to enquire about pricing and availability. Private lessons are perfect for those with specific goals in mind.  When signing you up for private lessons we will work with you to determine your level, your goals for the lessons, as well as your availability and anything else we should know to be able to place you with one of our highly skilled teachers. The Alliance Française of New Orleans, offers adult classes following the official program built by the Council of Europe called: The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). It was designed to provide a comprehensive basis for language curriculum guidelines, the design of teaching and learning materials, and the assessment of foreign language proficiency, which can be officially confirmed via DELF/DALF exams if desired. The CEFR describes foreign language proficiency at six levels: A1-C2.

Best Opportunity for Successful Language Learning in New Orleans

For years I’ve dabbled a bit in foreign languages including French, Italian, and Spanish, but I really wanted to master a forein language so that I could connect with locals when I travel abroad and show my camaraderie. I started at the Alliance before a trip to France and have continued to return to the Alliance as I progress through the French levels with my classmates because the Alliance’s structured classroom style and it’s holistic approach to language learning (which includes a full program of cultural events) truly promotes success in language acquisition.
