-Beginners can start with ‘Initiation to French’ or A1.1. Initiation is ‘Ultra Beginner’ if you want to start with the very basics.
-Non-beginners, take our simple online placement test if you’d like to join, but unsure of your level. We’ll follow up.
-The Alliance Française of New Orleans, like every Alliance Française in the United States and the World, follows the official program built by the Council of Europe called: The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). It was designed to provide a comprehensive basis for language curriculum guidelines, the design of teaching and learning materials, and the assessment of foreign language proficiency, which can be officially confirmed via DELF/DALF exams if desired. The CEFR describes foreign language proficiency at six levels:
- A1: Beginner
- A2: Advanced Beginner
- B1: Intermediate
- B2: Advanced 1
- C1: Advanced 2
- C2: Master
NOTE: Classes canceled if minimums not met, so book by registration deadlines!

Regular or ‘Accelerated’ Classes
Regular – Numbered classes that correspond to certain levels of French, from Beginner (A1) to Advanced (C1). Meet once or twice a week, over a period of 10 weeks (Regular) or 5 weeks (Accelerated). Our Spring Session is 9 weeks.

“Thematic”/Summer: Initiation, Conversation, Reviews – All Levels
-Meet once a week for 1.5 hours, for 5 weeks. Offered twice in a session.
-Initiation to French (Ultra Beginner Level): A very basic class to get your feet wet in French.
-Conversation Thursdays! ‘Les jeudis conversation’: 2 Levels: Intermediate (3-4 years study) or Advanced (5+ years/fluent)
-Reviews of the A1, A2, B1, B2 levels are given over the summer, when we run a lighter schedule.
Thematic Tuition: $105 + $40 annual membership
Take on specific challenging topics with a very brief format of two lively hours on Saturday afternoon. Refresh your French with low commitment or enhance current studies. For Intermediate to Advanced Levels. Registration CLOSES a week before start date. Register: WORKSHOPS
